Swans star Adam Goodes Returns in AFL 2015 against the Cats

Geelong Cats vs. Sydney Swans. These two teams faced each other in the 19th round of Australian Football League 2015. Cats snubbed a dominative win over the Swans and made it a memorable win for their skipper Selwood’s 200th game at Simonds Stadium in AFL 2015. But the main focus of the match was upon Swans star Adam Goodes who made an emotional comeback to the arena for his 366th game of career. This 2014 Australian of the Year missed the clash against Adelaide as he decided to step away as regular taunts from opposition fans reached a crescendo. Not only Goodes but also some other officials of the AFL community felt that the booing was racially motivated. But tonight Goodes returned and was thankfully spared the continuous booing that has followed him for maximum time of the year. Goodes also scored a goal on the first quarter of the match. But his arrival was not proved lucky for the team as Swans lost the match to a 14.11 (95) to 9.9 (63) defeat.

Goodes were welcomed very cordially tonight in AFL 2015. There was a firework above the stadium following “welcome to country”. Cats’ players also urge their fans to show respect to every player with the help of video call. Many fans also carried aboriginal flags with them writing in the middle ‘pride’. Many people also brought placards where “RESPECT #37”, “GOODESY YOU LEGEND”, “CHEER FOR GOODESY” and others inspirational titles were written. Geelong fans also showed their tribute and homage to the return of Goodes. One of such Geelong fan Adam Fratantaro said that this heinous work (booing) had gone on long and long enough, regardless of the intentions of the spectators. He said

“Adam  Goodes is definitely got hurt and it’s should be stopped now. We say respect him as he deserves that”

There is also some negative scenario as well despite of so many inspirational tasks. Though most of the  crowd was gentle and well behaved, there were also some spectators who were giving continuous boo whenever Goodes got the ball. Despite of both the positive and negative scenario, this was undoubtedly one of the most memorable days of the history of AFL 2015.

Walker, Dangerfield and teammate’s Riley knight and Sam Siggins, along with a  former AFL player by the name Campbell brown, presented their grievances on twitter with the charge on Tuesday morning The player (Podsiadly) had been cited for a hit high on Sam overall playing for south Adelaide’s last weekend. Podsiadly shepherd had met Sam, front on when he disposed the ball. The crows maintained their stand that no high contact had been made and therefore the suspension was supposed to be overturned. The 33 year old Podsiadly had risked a two match suspension by challenging the charge. However, the suspension was overturned after the club presented its grievances to the tribunal, it did not take long before the tribunal agreed.

Crows, James Podsiadly was cleared to play this coming weekend after the tribunal overturned ban for a  striking charge. Geelong rookie cam Delaney played only six games during his four season spree with North Melbourne, but was only able to play in two VFL games back in 2014 after developed toe and foot problems since when he was playing senior football back in 2013. The kangaroos were ready to take him as a rookie, but cam seized the chance to become a Grovedale product one place ahead of Melbourne, at selection no.29.

Mark young, Geelong physiotherapist told catsTV that they had set the bar too high for Delaney, giving   him the best opportunity for success when he comes back. Young said “he has had to complete a full month of training with several weeks of running. He further continued to say

“it was important he was confident with his body, but he is all set to make his debut for the cats this weekend.”

The cats have welcomed back Josh Cowan, Nathan Vardy and Daniel Menzel to the VFL after spending a considerable amount of time on the bench with long-term injuries in the past month. Cam Delaney has been sidelined much this year, but with his comeback things could get better for the cats. With his injury battle over, Cameron Delaney will make his first appearance this year when the cats set to play this weekend.

Currently, Geelong has a short list of injured players, a great contrast compared to the mid-season when   they were struggling for stable players. The physiotherapist told catTV that the club was confident   Delaney would perform exceptionally on Saturday when they play against the box hill hawks. Young said “we are as confident as we can be; there is always an element of the unknown when you are playing a game for the first time, but we have exposed him to a decent block of training and we are confident he will go well on the weekend.

Leon Cameron Says That Finals Is A Simple Equation
Leon Cameron, greater western Sydney coach said that he has a simple equation in regards to his team’s final chance of redeeming itself in 2015. The coach did not mince his words when said that the team will make it if it’s good enough, and it will not make it if it’s not up to the standards. After their Sunday win over Essendon the giants looked nothing but a top 8 eight side. However, they did what they could to get a tenth win from eighteen starts, this is the first time that they have reached the double figure wins in a season.

In the first 2 quarters, the bombers beat GWS but they still managed to remain in the game, before outdoing the visitors with 11 goals to 3 second half.

Although it was a scrappy victory, Leon says it was still nice to be in the final race. After the match Cameron told reporters that it was amazing to win these games and remain in the title race.

Jon Patton the big forward, made a great return to face the bombers, and although he was not at his best since rupturing his right knee for the second time last year, he still managed to get out of the game unscathed. Jon managed to showcase his prowess and want he can do for the giants if his body allows, with four marks and nine world class possessions against Essendon. The coach told reporters that Patton had exceeded his expectations and looked great in the giant’s forward setup with Rory Lobb, Jeremy Cameron and Cam McCarthy.

Coach Cameron also said that Jon Patton did his best during the match a sign that he is improving exactly the way they want him to. McCarthy also started the game as a giant sub, but his impact was felt when he replaced Tom Sculy who was injured in the third quarter.

McCarthy was recalled to the team after spending 2 weeks in the NEAFL and had five marks, 11 possessions and got the winners two goals.
